Children's Book

A growing collection of child-friendly stories designed to help kids and families understand kidney conditions with clarity and hope.

The Story Behind the Story

The Adventures of Henley Bowman & Dr. Neph grew out of a simple, hard moment many parents in our community know well, trying to explain a kidney diagnosis to a child in a way that feels reassuring instead of scary. Vincent Ko, KidneyFuture's founder, wrote the first draft after searching for a children's book about kidney differences for his own daughter and finding nothing that fit. The story follows Henley, a kid navigating a kidney condition, and Dr. Neph, a friendly guide who helps make sense of what's happening inside his body, turning an unfamiliar diagnosis into something a child can understand and even feel a little brave about.

We're finishing illustrations and working with our Parent & Patient Council to make sure the story genuinely resonates with families living this experience before it's released.

What Comes After Henley

Once the first book is out, we plan to expand into additional stories and a companion activity guide, shaped by feedback from the families who read it first. If you'd like to help shape what comes next, join our Parent & Patient Council.
